BALMAIN, PARIS

POST WAR PIERRE BALMAIN WAS THE KING OF FRENCH FASHION, OUTFITTING STARS LIKE AVA GARDNER AND BRIGITTE BARDOT. THE LABEL WAS KNOWN FOR IT’S CLASSIC, LUXURIOUS DESIGNS UNTIL 2011 WHEN THE HOUSE WAS LED BY CHRISTOPHE DECARNIN WHOSE VISION FOR THE HOUSE WAS MUCH EDGIER, BRINGING BACK THE GLITZ AND GLITTER OF THE 70S.

IN THE SONG “WHERE DO YOU GO TO (MY LOVELY)?” BY PETER SARSTEDT HE SINGS THAT ALL “YOUR CLOTHES ARE ALL MADE BY BALMAIN”.

OLIVIER ROUSTEIG TOOK OVER AS DESIGNER FOR BALMAIN IN 2011. AT ONLY 26 YEARS OLD HE HAS THE COURAGE OF HIS CONVICTIONS. WHETHER POWER SHOULDERS AND HIPS ARE YOUR PERSONAL TASTE OR NOT, HE WINDS THE CLOCK BACK TO GLAM ROCK. IT’S A BRAVE LOOK AND PULLING THIS LOOK OFF MAKES YOU EVEN BRAVER.

BALMAIN IS ABOUT ALL THAT GLITTERS, PROVING THAT ALL GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD… BUT IT MAY AS WELL BE.
